Embrace the Small Moments. As caregivers, we often find ourselves swept up in the hustle and bustle of daily tasks and responsibilities. From managing medications and appointments to ensuring our loved ones are comfortable and happy, the list can seem never-ending. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress and forget to take a step back and appreciate the small moments that can bring joy to both you and the person you’re caring for.
The Tip for June? Embrace the Small Moments In the midst of your busy routine, make a conscious effort to slow down and savor the small, everyday moments. These little slices of joy can make a significant difference in your overall well-being and your relationship with your loved one. I recently went on a drive up Springhill Road. The flowers were beautiful and the setting sun inspiring. It wasn't a whole day getaway, but a small couple of hour getaway with me and my camera. I must have taken 30-40 photos. I usually end up with about 5 really good ones. It was a nice way to step away from the busy and find joy behind my camera lens. What is something small that you can do for yourself? It doesn't have to take a long time, it can be relatively short, but what is something that you can do right now? Is it grabbing your camera? Is it going for a walk and listening for the sounds of nature? Is it sitting in the sun with a cold drink? Find the joy in something small that you can do for yourself.

Hey amazing caregivers! Welcome to "Dear Caregiver...". This is Summit Wells blog dedicated to the selfless act of caregiving.
For this blog, we will be providing tips for sustainable caregiving. So, get ready... here is tip #1! Taking care of others is a noble journey, and it's crucial to remember that self-care isn't selfish – it's essential! Prioritize YOUR well-being! Schedule regular breaks, indulge in activities you love, and don't forget to recharge. You can't pour from an empty cup, so fill yours up first! Take a moment and think of something you enjoy doing. Maybe it's enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch. Take 10 minutes and do that. Maybe you are crafty, start working on a project. Find ways to take care of yourself first. Most people will say they don't have time, everyone has at least 5-10 minutes a day they can do something for themselves. What's stopping you? You can make 5-10 minutes for yourself a day. Schedule it in your calendar, much like you do other appointments. Make an appointment with you! If you need professional guidance, Summit Well is available to help. If you look under caregiver coaching and consultation, you will find some options that might fit your needs. Also, stay tuned... we will be offering some workshops in early summer! |
