What is well-being? What does it mean for caretaking?
Sometimes it is easier to talk about what something isn't before you say what it is. Well-being isn't about just feeling good. Well-being has been defined as the combination of feeling good and functioning well. It is the experience of positive emotions like happiness and contentment as well as the feeling of some control over one's life, having a sense of purpose, and experiencing positive relationships.
To foster well-being requires intentionality when trying to establish habits and routines that contribute to our overall sense of well-being, particularly when caretaking. In some cases you might need some additional support through a more formal means, such as counseling or coaching. When engaging with a coaching or counseling session, an individual takes a positive step in improving well-being as a coach or counselor provides individualized plans of action. Every person is uniquely listened to and understood in the context of their caregiving situation. If you are struggling, don't hesitate to reach out. Sometimes, a listening is ear is all you need to really make a difference.
